Candy sparks domestic violence arrest

Deputies in Grand Traverse County arrested a man for domestic violence after an argument over candy.

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- An argument about candy led to a domestic violence arrest in Grand Traverse County.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office reported the mother of a 45-year-old man called the police because her son's girlfriend had hit him.

Deputies went to the home of the man and said he had gone into the bathroom where a 36-year-old woman was showering. They began arguing about candy the woman had bought.

The woman reportedly struck the man in the face, which is when he called his mother.

The 36-year-old woman told deputies she was upset because the man had unlocked the door while she was showering and didn't want her 8-year-old son to see her naked.

The woman told deputies the man grabbed her by the throat and threatened her. She said it was hard to breathe but she could still breathe.

Deputies reported redness on the woman's neck and when the questions the 8-year-old he told them his mom had been choked.

They arrested the man for domestic assault and strangulation.
