Chateau Chantal holds annual Blessing of the Blossoms
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The annual Blessing of the Blossoms was held over the weekend.
Father James of St. Joseph's Parish presided over the non-denominational service at Chateau Chantal on Sunday.
The meaning of the Blessing of the Blossoms is to ask the Lord for good weather for the land's harvest.
The ceremony was free to the public and included complimentary cherry pie and, of course, wine to its guests after the service.
"We come out and we bless the blossoms, asking God to give us good rain, no frost, that we have good weather at night and that we have a wonderful harvest, but also that no one gets hurt during the process. It is a festivity," said Father James.
The blossoms on Old Mission Peninsula have been blessed every year since 1910.
