Cherry Capital welcomes first United Airlines mainline flight
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A northern Michigan airport welcomed it's first full-size passenger plane from United Airlines this weekend.
The Airbus-319 from Chicago landed at Traverse City's Cherry Capital Airport at 5:20 p.m. Saturday with 120 passengers.
Upon getting into the terminal, guests were greeted with Traverse City gift bags, cherry pie from Grand Traverse Pie Company and wine samples.
United is now the second airline at Cherry Capital to schedule mainline flights in and out of the airport.
The United mainline landing was made possible by the recent runway expansion.
"What's fantastic about this is Delta Airlines has been serving Traverse City with mainline, now United," said Kevin Klein, the airport director at Cherry Capital. "So it's just opening up more opportunities, more seats on the market, more opportunities for lower fares, so we continue to provide that service that Northern Michigan is looking for."
Klein said Cherry Capital will continue to get mainline flights from United throughout the summer.
