MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Tuesday night Coast Guard members helped get medical attention to a resident stranded on Mackinac Island.
The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Katmai Bay was called to Mackinac Island when aircraft weren't able to take off because of weather conditions.
An island resident needed immediate medical attention so the cutter broke through the ice and into the island's harbor.
Local medical crews got the patient onboard and the cutter crew got the woman safely to St. Ignace.
"The crew responded admirably in adverse conditions to answer the call," LT Steele Johnson, Commanding Officer of CGC Katmai Bay. "We’re happy to have done our part in getting her the advanced medical treatment she needed.”
