CLAPPERTON ISLAND, On., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Three stranded kayakers were rescued with the help of the Coast Guard from Air Station Traverse City.

According to the Coast Guard, the three kayakers got separated from their group on Clapperton Island in Ontario's Georgian Bay.

The Coast Guard said the kayakers had built a signal fire and were waving their paddles when they were seen by a passing cruise ship.

A crew in a helicopter arrived just before sunset Thursday and picked up the three kayakers.

The group was taken to a nearby airport.
