Community gathers to support local food pantry at 21st Annual Soup Nite

Hundreds came out to the Empty Bowls Project to support the Benzie Food Pantries.

BENZIE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Full pantries and full bellies -- that is the goal of the Empty Bowls Project put on by Benzie Food Pantries.

On Wednesday, hundreds of people came out to the 21st Annual Soup Nite at the Gathering Place Senior Center in Honor.

Some of the area's best soups were served up by local celebrities, including 7&4 News' very own Joe Charlevoix.

The bowls being used were handcrafted by Benzie Central Art students, girl scouts and other community members.

Last year's event raised $3,500.

Money raised for the event will go to Benzie Food Pantries and will be used to fill the shelves of area food pantries.

Since the beginning of the year, Benzie Food Partners has distributed more 37,000 pounds of food to more than 2,600 Benzie County residents.
