Couple marries at Grand Traverse Pie Company on Halloween

A northern Michigan couple got married on Halloween.

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- A northern Michigan couple decided to make Halloween their wedding day.

Mike and Makaila King got married at the Grand Traverse Pie Company on Front Street in downtown Traverse City.

The groom dressed as Julius Caesar and the bride dressed as Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love.

They both say Halloween is one of their favorite holidays.

"For me I think it's more of everybody kinda join in for getting the dress up you know you never know what people are gonna dress up as," said Mike.

Makaila had a special reason for wanting to get married on Halloween.

"I actually had someone very dear to me die on this day and I wanted to honor her memory but I also love Halloween myself so I wanted to have my wedding make it feel like she's with me even though she's not here," said Makaila.

Mike has been working at Grand Traverse Pie company for the past eight years and says he's grateful the owners allowed him to get married there.

The King's had an apple, blueberry and cherry pie instead of a wedding cake.
