Crews battle wood mill fire in Emmet County

EMMET COUNTY, Mich (WPBN/WGTU) -- Multiple fire departments are expected to be on scene much of the night after a wood mill fire in Emmet County.

Crews were called to Manthei Veneer Mill on Manthei Road and Charlevoix Avenue just south of Petoskey around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Black smoke from the fire could be seen for miles. Paramedics say no one was seriously injured, although medical crews did assist with firefighters recovering from exhaustion battling the blaze.

At least eight different departments responded to the fire, coming from as far away as Charlevoix.

The mill has been a family owned business for about 75 years.
