Decade-old sexual assault case re-opened, couple arrested
ALPENA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A northern Michigan couple has been arrested in connection with a decade old sexual assault investigation.
According to Michigan State Police, a 6-year-old child reported the incident at school back in 2008.
Records show investigators were not able to obtain enough evidence to charge a man and woman who were suspected of the abuse.
The case was re-opened a decade later by the Alpena County Prosecutor's Office.
MSP said additional evidence has been filed and Walter Massengil, 59, and Joann Massengil-King, 60, were arrested for multiple sexual assault charges.
Investigators said the suspects were married at the time the assault was reported.
On Monday, the pair, both from Alpena, was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit criminal sexual conduct first degree, three counts of criminal sexual assault second degree and three counts of assault with intent to commit sexual penetration.
Both are being held on a $500,000 bond.
