Leelanau County deputies use overdose reversal drug for first time

The Leelanau County Sheriff's Department used NARCAN for the first time to relive two men who had apparently overdosed on heroin.

LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Two men were taken to the hospital after an apparent heroin overdose Saturday night.

The Grand Traverse Band Tribal Police Department was called out to a residence on the Grand Traverse Reservation in Leelanau County after 11:30 p.m.

When Leelanau County deputies got to the residence they found two men unresponsive.

Deputy Steve Bailey immediately took two doses of NARCAN out of his patrol car, administering one to each victim.

Both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.

This is the first time the sheriff's office has been able to intervene in an overdose situation using the provided drug.
