Developer eyes resort property for reconstruction

More changes could be on the way to the Cadillac area.

A downstate developer is hoping to purchase the waterfront property where the Sands Resort currently sits.

It's located off of M-115 in Cadillac West.

Robb Munger says he'd like to demolish the current building and start from scratch with the construction of a hotel, restaurant, and convention center.

Munger says it's possible that the 7-acre property could also include another building for retail space and apartments.

He feels it's a great spot for a resort like this.

"If you look at a 30 mile radius, there's roughly two ski areas, five golf courses, then there's two prominent lakes, then you have the city of Cadillac itself and what's happening with the renovation and new buildings going in down there," Munger says.

"This location is really a tremendous one as it has what I believe to be the largest frontage of beach access to Lake Cadillac," said Marcus Peccia, Cadillac City Manager. "Having a hotel and restaurants and shops located as part of a mixed use project on this site, should that be what it becomes, would really be transformational to this area."

The project is still in the very early stages.

Munger hopes to purchase the property by December, and would like to start construction next spring.
