Downstate man killed in Chippewa County snowmobile crash

A Saginaw man died in a Chippewa County snowmobile crash.

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A man died in a snowmobile crash and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is reminding riders to use caution.

Around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday a 51-year-old Saginaw man missed a curve and struck a tree while snowmobiling in Chippewa County.

He was taken to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry where he was pronounced dead, according to DNR officers.

The crash happened on Snowmobile Trail No. 8 between M-123 and Curley Lewis Highway.

Lt. Skip Hagy from the DNR said life-saving efforts were made at the scene but were unsuccessful.

The crash is being investigated by the DNR and the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office.

Officers are reminding snowmobilers to slow down and ride with care.
