Eddie Van Halen's former brother-in-law remembers the man behind the music

CHARLEVOIX COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- The former brother-in-law of Eddie Van Halen is remembering the guitarist as a family man.

Eddie Van Halen died Tuesday after a long battle with throat cancer.

David Bertinelli, who lives in Charlevoix, is the brother of Van Halen's first wife Valerie Bertinelli.

David said he was there when his sister first met Eddie at one of his concerts in 1980.

The couple was married for more than 20 years.

Off stage, David said Eddie was a good guy, who was always accommodating and loved spending time with his family.

David said throughout the years, he would go on tour with Van Halen and take photos.

David plans to put a book together of the photos and looks forward to sharing them with Eddie's fans.
