Enbridge, Michigan Tech to monitor Straits of Mackinac with buoys
STRAITS OF MACKINAC, Mi (WPBN/WGTU)-- Enbridge is getting some help monitoring its pipeline in the Straits of Mackinac from the surface of the water.
With the help from Michigan Technological University, the company is deploying buoys to keep track of weather data, such as wind direction and speed, wave height, and air temperature and pressure.
The buoy is equipped with sensors and will send out sound waves to monitor currents near the lake bed.
Enbridge says this will help them anticipate any potential risks affecting Line 5.
