Family returns to home badly damaged after break-in

The Charlevoix County Sheriff's Office looking the person or people responsible for destroying a Charlevoix County home.

CHARLEVOIX COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- A family is picking up the pieces after someone broke in and ransacked their Charlevoix County home, and investigators are working to track down whoever is responsible.

Deputies say the break-in likely happened over the weekend at the home on Crozier Road in Wilson Township.

A neighbor reported it after seeing doors left open.

The suspect or suspects broke in and destroyed the kitchen of the house, breaking granite counter tops and a refrigerator and smashing through glass sliding doors.

The Charlevoix County Sheriff says at least a couple of items were stolen, but detectives are still working with the family to see what is missing.

“We are working on a reward right now," said Detective Ben Speigl. "We don’t know what that amount is going to be quite yet, but we’ll release that once that figure comes in. We do have some evidence that was collected on scene that will be processed, and we’ll move on from there.”

The sheriff's office says it has no reason to believe that this family would be targeted specifically.

If you saw anything or have any information about who may be responsible, you're asked to call the Charlevoix County Sheriff's Office.
