Fire rips through Grand Traverse County home under renovations

The renovations for a Grand Traverse County home are set back after an early Sunday fire.

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Renovations for a house in Grand Traverse County are set back after an early morning fire.

According to Lieutenant Kyle Clute with the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department, crews were called to the 8000 block of East Traverse Highway shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday for a well-involved house fire.

Clute said the first responders on scene said the attached garage fire was spreading to the house.

Crews were able to get the fire under control within about 40 minutes of being on scene.

Investigators said mutual aid tankers were requested from both Long Lake and Elmwood fire departments.

The home had been under extensive renovations with no one living there at the time of the fire, Clute said.

The fire was reported to Grand Traverse 911 by a passerby.

No one was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
