GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A former Kingsley principal could face life in prison with a new sex crime charge.

Karl Hartman was arraigned Wednesday afternoon on an added charge of first degree criminal sexual conduct.

The new allegation involves anal penetration of a first grader about 30 years ago.

Hartman pleaded not guilty to the charge that could put him in prison for life.

With the addition of the charge, Judge Bob Cooney changed bond to $100,000 cash or surety.

Hartman's attorney said it's a weak case but Cooney said, “This is a stronger case than it was prior.”

Hartman waived his right to a preliminary examination but a pretrial is set for March 21.
