Funding for Weir Moves to Snyder's Desk

The Little Manistee fishing weir is one step closer to getting some much-needed upgrades.

State Rep. Curt VanderWall (R-101st) voted Wednesday in favor of funding for the upgrades.

The upgrades include electrical, water supply and pump improvements as well as new holding ponds, energy efficient lighting systems and an emergency generator.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the total cost of the project will be more than $12 million and bring an additional $8 million in economic value to Michigan each year.

The funding project will now move on to Governor Snyder for review.
