Golf outing raises more than $6K for Benzie County K-9 Unit

The 8th Annual K-9 Hausso Memorial Golf Outing was held at the Crystal Lake Golf Club Wednesday to raise money for the Benzie County Sheriff's Department's K-9 Unit.

BENZIE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The Crystal Lake Golf Club in Benzie County was packed as the community showed support for the Benzie County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit.

27 teams took part in the 8th Annual K-9 Hausso Memorial Golf Outing Wednesday.

The event raises hundreds of dollars for the K-9 Unit, which is funded by donations and fundraisers and not tax-payer money.

The golf outing was created in honor of the first K-9, Hausso, who died after several years with the department.

"We're really excited about today," said Benzie County Sheriff Ted Schendel. "God gave us a beautiful day to play golf and this is our largest amount of people that have showed up for this outing so it just shows you the out pour of the community and how they support their sheriff's office and their K-9."

This year's event raised more than $6,500 for the unit.
