Grayling woman continues 'Cards for Soldiers' tradition

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGUT) -- A northern Michigan woman is continuing to spread holiday cheer to troops.

Charly Mathews has ran the 'Cards for Soldiers' program since 2005.

The program sends cards to service members in all military branches around the world all year and includes blank cards so they can write back or reach out to loved ones.

Right now, hundreds of boxes of cards with Get Well wishes, holiday greeting and simple "Thank Yous" are being packed to be sent out this month.

“They need to know that they’re appreciated by somebody personally. You can have stamps made up and stamp those cards," said Mathews. "Me? I’m not that kind of person. I need to hand-sign that card. They need to know somebody really cared to sit down and hand-sign that card. Any little bit of joy we can bring to them, it makes me happy.”

The Cards for Soldiers Program has sent out hundreds of thousands of Cards to Troops around the world during this year alone.

If you would like to send a 'Thank You' card to a soldier, you can send it to:
