GT County Sheriff's Office announces new undersheriff
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office announced the new Undersheriff.
Detective Mike Shea was offered and accepted the appointment to Undersheriff Wednesday.
Shea enrolled in the Northwestern Michigan College Police Academy in 2004 and joined the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office shortly after graduation in 2005.
He worked as a field training officer, was a member of the dive team and worked as a community police officer.
Shea was named Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Employee of the Year in 2011 and was promoted to detective in 2014.
He was born and raised in Traverse City and graduated from Traverse City Senior High School.
For 16 years, Shea worked for Peninsula Fruit Exchange before changing career paths and enrolling in the academy.
Shea will start his new position on October 29.
The former undersheriff Nate Alger left the position after being named the Grand Traverse County Administrator in June.
