NORTHERN MICHIGAN, (WPBN/WGTU) -- With a blizzard warning in effect for several northern Michigan counties this week, there are things you should do to prepare your car for potential travel.
The National Weather Service stated that, between Thursday and Saturday, travel should be restricted to emergencies only as traveling will be "difficult to impossible at times."
People can purchase a pre-made emergency kit or you can make one themselves.
An emergency kit could include things like gloves, cat litter, a blanket, a flashlight, jumper cables and a car phone charger.
In addition to those items, it's always a good idea to have a shovel and a snow brush if you get stuck.
Michigan State Police suggest keeping non-perishable foods and drinking water, as well as having emergency contact information.
And before you hit the road, it's also a good time to check your windshield wiper blades, car battery and top off your windshield wiper fluid.
First responders are urging Michiganders to be prepared for the incoming blizzard.
You never know when you will encounter dangerous road conditions or an emergency road closure.
