GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU)-- An investigation is underway after a 41-year-old man was found dead in his jail cell.
It happened around 12:05 a.m. Saturday at the Grand Traverse County Jail.
According to the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office, Alan Halloway was found unresponsive in his jail cell. Corrections officers immediately began CPR. Halloway was later pronounced dead.
Deputies say the initial response and investigation into an apparent suicide was handled by the Traverse City Police Department. The death investigation has since been turned over to the Michigan State police.
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office will also be requesting that the Michigan Sheriff's Association assign a Mission Team to further investigate the incident.
Halloway was arraigned Thursday on charges of one count of attempted murder, one count of concealing a dangerous weapon as well as felony firearm following a shooting at Bay Hill Apartments in Traverse City.
Halloway was being held on a $1 million cash surety bond.
