Man accused of giving 'inappropriate gifts' to student charged

Phillip Darga is accused of giving an 'inappropriate gift' to a Traverse City High School student.

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The man accused of giving "inappropriate gifts" to a high school girl was charged Thursday.

Phillip Darga, 49, was charged with distributing obscene material to a child and habitual offender second.

Darga is accused of giving a bag to a 17-year-old girl with sex toys, reading material, candy and other things inside, according to Grand Traverse County Prosecuting Attorney Bob Cooney.

The Traverse City Area Public Schools said the incident happened in April during a weekend event at West High School.

Darga has a no-trespass order on school property that was issued by police at school administrators' request.

Darga is being held on 10 percent of a $25,000 bond.

He will be back in court at 8:30 a.m. June 6 for a probable cause hearing and 11 a.m. June 13 for a preliminary hearing.
