Man accused of murdering his wife more than 40 years ago appears in Wisconsin courtroom

STURGEON BAY, Wisconsin (WPBN/WGTU) -- A Cheboygan County man accused of killing his wife more than 40 years ago appeared in a Wisconsin courthouse Monday.

Richard Pierce, 82, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Carol Jean Pierce in 1975.

Carol's body has never been found.

On Monday, Pierece waived the usual 10-day limit for a preliminary hearing to be held.

Pierce was arrested in October in Cheboygan and extradited to Door County, Wisconsin.

Police have torn up Pierce's property looking for evidence, but have not said if they have found any remains.

Pierce is due back in court in March.
