Man arrested for drunk driving after five prior convictions
LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A man with five prior OWI conviction was arrested for drunk driving in Leelanau County Friday morning.
Just after 1 a.m. a Leelanau County Sheriff's Deputy tried to stop a driver on M-22 near Cedar Cove Road for failing to dim his headlights.
The driver didn't stop and abruptly turned into a private driveway, deputies said.
The man got out of the pickup truck and ran from the deputy.
The deputy caught up to him in the back yard of the home and the man was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
The man had an OWI convictions in 2005 and 2006 in Alpena, 2008 in Wyoming, 2010 in Charlevoix County and a 2013 conviction for OWI and flee and elude in Kalamazoo County.
He was lodged in the Leelanau County Jail for felony OWI and driving on a denied and suspended license.
