Man charged in Charlevoix accidental shooting from April
CHARLEVOIX COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A man has been charged in connection to an accidental shooting in Charlevoix.
Charlevoix City Police said Anthony Michanowicz accidentally shot Gregory Van Stedum while showing him his gun in April.
Van Stedum was taken to McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators said the gun was unloaded when the victim was looking at it and then he handed it back to Michanowicz, who reloaded it.
Police Chief Gerard Doan said this is when the gun accidentally discharged, hitting Van Stedum.
Michanowicz was arraigned on a charge of firearm discharge causing death/injury on Thursday, July 5.
He is scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary exam on July 31 at 2:30 p.m.
