Manistee Co. career expo offers opportunities for jobs and growth

The Manistee County Chamber of Commerce has worked hard for years to develop this collaboration and event.

MANISTEE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — An annual event held on Thursday is making career and education connections easier for students and those looking for a new start.

It was part of the the annual Manistee County Business and Career Expo, that was held at the Little River Casino and Resort.

The event is put on through the Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce, with partnership with the Launch Manistee program.

The Chamber of Commerce has worked hard for years to develop this collaboration and event.

A portion of the day was open for students in the county, mainly upperclassmen.

Students were able to meet with county businesses, and learn about jobs, and education and training opportunities available to them.

“[Students] are able to see that their community is a rich, and vibrant place that they hopefully will want to be a part of as they go into their adulthood,” said Hannah Rodriguez, a Launch Manistee Coordinator.

“It’s a good opportunity to get to know people, because in the business world, the more people you know, the more opportunity opens up,” explained Jack Sandstedt, a senior at Manistee High School who attended the event.

“It shows the variety of the different businesses, and what their goals are and how to achieve it and how to get to where they are,” said another senior, Anselmo Sarabia.

The event was also open to the public during the afternoon for anyone looking to make career connections.

As part of the student portion of the event, the Consumers Energy Foundation gave a $20,000 grant to the Manistee County Community Foundation.

“Consumers Energy is dedicated to ensuring all Michigan residents are thriving economically with access to world-class educational resources,” said Carolyn Bloodworth, secretary/treasurer of the Consumers Energy Foundation. “We are pleased to support Launch Manistee with a grant that will strengthen and sustain its education initiatives and grow talent across Michigan.”

The grant helps the Launch Manistee program connect children and students in Manistee County with available resources to develop the skills they need to be successful.
