McLaren Northern Michigan breaks ground on expansion
PETOSKEY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- McLaren Northern Michigan held a ground breaking ceremony for its 170,000 square foot expansion on Wednesday.
The hospital says the project has been in the making for years, and it's part of a plan to transition all of its rooms to private rooms.
The new wing will have almost 100 rooms.
In addition to having more privacy, new rooms will have space for family members to stay over.
The project will cost about $175 million.
$23 million has already been raised by donors.
“I’m very excited to see that we finally have a chance to put a shovel in the ground and build this new hospital wing for this community," said Jim Offield, the project's lead donor. "I believe this new wing will be a huge anchor and a terrific asset for our community.”
The entrance to the new wing will be named after the Offield family.
McLaren plans on having the entire project finished in 2022.
