More than 7,000 run 36th annual Bayshore Marathon

Runners come from around the country to race in the Bayshore Marathon.

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- More than 7,000 runners participated in the 36th annual Bayshore Marathon on Saturday morning.

Those running could complete the full marathon, the half marathon or the 10k.

The course runs along the East side of Old Mission Peninsula by Grand Traverse Bay.

Many of the racers in the marathon are from outside of the area and like the Bayshore for its views from the course.

"It's a very scenic run down Mission Peninsula for the half marathon," said Bill Walker of Columbus. "They do a nice job of putting it together. The volunteers are great, and a lot of nice support along the race track. We had a good time. It was a little warm today, didn't have a great run, but had a great time."

The marathon is hosted by Traverse City Track Club and is made possible by more than 1,000 volunteers.

It's estimated that an additional 1,000 people were there to spectate and cheer on the runners.
