NORTHERN MICHIGAN (WPBN/WGTU) -- Housing Michigan Coalition is launching legislative initiatives that aim to create new housing opportunities for communities across the state.
Housing North of Northwest Michigan is part of more than 20 statewide organizations working with the initiative.
The bi-partisan proposal would provide housing tools, like allowing residents to qualify for affordable housing.
Executive Director of Housing North Yarrow Brown said she’s excited the initiatives were so well received in Lansing.
“It shows that the need is great in Michigan. Not just in northwest Michigan, given the pandemic it has really elevated the need to address our housing situation even higher,” Brown said. “Almost every organization we talk to indicates that housing is a top priority, so this is one step forward in bringing more solutions to our community.”
Brown said it’s a major goal of housing north to address the challenges of housing development in rural communities.
