New small business officially opens in Manistee after special competition
MANISTEE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- After months of competition between entrepreneurs, downtown Manistee is welcoming a new small business.
J. Catlett & Company, and owner Jamie Catlett was joined by members of the visitor’s bureau, Chamber of Commerce and community members Wednesday morning for the opening day ribbon cutting.
It’s a new business that offers men’s grooming services.
The barber shop is located downtown on one of the city’s busiest intersections at Maple and River Streets.
Catlett was one of five other finalists in the SPARK Manistee competition that presented their hopeful business plans to a panel of judges.
As the winning entrepreneur, Catlett was awarded $5,000 and was able to open her shop.
“I wanted to make sure that the barber shop fits into the Victorian era; fits into the whole historic vibe of the town,” Catlett said. “It’s my personal taste too, so it’s been really fun, everyone so far loves it. They love coming in here, they love the music and the vibe, so yeah it’s been pretty awesome.”
The competition was managed by the City of Manistee Downtown Development Authority (DDA).
As the winner, Catlett is also eligible for a low-interest DDA business loan.
