NMC honors student, community veterans with Walk of Honor


    Northwestern Michigan College held their annual Walk of Honor to honor student and community veterans on Monday.

    GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Northwestern Michigan College held their annual Veterans Day Commemoration Monday.

    During the ceremony, veterans from both the college and community were honored.

    The day started off with a free breakfast at The Dennos Museum with a guest appearance from Congressman Jack Bergman.

    At the breakfast, the college presented a $10,000 check to provide financial assistance to student veterans in the future.

    "It’s humbling. It’s really humbling to walk through and everyone is there and it’s emotional. We really appreciate it," said NMC Aviation student and veteran Christopher Brutzman. "So much gets wrapped up and Veterans Day sales. Go buy a mattress go buy a car. I don’t walk this for myself I walker for people that can’t be here."

    The breakfast was followed by a Walk of Honor.

    Near the end of the ceremony, a flag ceremony was done by the Traverse City VFW with the playing of taps and the three volley salute.
