GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — Help from a northern Michigan man is on the way to those impacted by the tornados in the southern United States over the weekend.
Timothy Baise flew to Mayfield, Kentucky in a plane stuffed with toys.
He is the President of Homeless Angels - a street-based outreach in Lansing.
While he was at the organization's toy drive this past weekend, he talked with the manager of the Mayfield Airport to find out what he should send to help those affected by the tornados.
Surrounded by thousands of toys, he said he couldn't believe it when the manager told him to send just that - toys.
"There's hundreds of houses that are just destroyed. There's no way these families are going to be able to get anything for these children. Toys, I mean I had goosebumps, I almost couldn't breathe, right? I started like blowing up because I'm in the middle of this," said Baise. "He had no idea who I was or what we were doing at the time and he said toys. All I could say is 'I'll be there tomorrow."
Baise left AVFlight in Traverse City Monday and flew to Howell to pick up the toys.
He said he packed his caravan plane with as many toys as he could.
He estimated around 1,000 toys were delivered.
