GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Northwestern Michigan College gave 8th through 10th graders a hands-on experience in a career today.

More than 400 students around Northwestern Michigan participated in the 4th Annual Building Tomorrow event.

Each student participated in five different careers.

Those who have been in the program say, it's really opened their eyes to what's out there.

"As i got into it, it opened my eyes seeing how important the industry is," said Dylan Nagel, a Carpentry Assistant and a past student who participated in the event. "I jump at the opportunity when I was offered a job at Hallmark Construction."

"You know a lot of kids when they get in here they never touched a tool and a lot of them find out, wow, i really enjoy doing this," said Daniel Goodchild, Program Coordinator for Construction Technology at Northwestern Michigan College. "Just the hope is to get them interested into a high demand, well-paying career field."
