One person dead after two-vehicle, semi tractor-trailer crash

The driver of a pickup truck is dead after a three-vehicle crash, involving a semi tractor-trailer, in Antrim County.

ANTRIM COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A portion of a northern Michigan highway was closed for several hours after a deadly three-vehicle crash in Antrim County.

It happened on US-31 near Erickson Road in Milton Township around 11:05 p.m. on Saturday.

According to investigators a 2018 Acura was passing another vehicle northbound when it hit a pickup truck going south head on.

The Acura went into a ditch on the west side of the road. The pickup truck was still on the roadway when it was hit by a southbound semi tractor-trailer carrying refrigerated food.

Sheriff Daniel Bean said the pickup truck was pushed into a ditch and started on fire.

The driver of the semi was able to exit the vehicle but the driver of the pickup truck was not and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Bean.

The driver of the pickup truck is not being identified at this time.

The passenger in the front seat and a passenger in the rear seat of the Acura were injured and taken to the hospital.

The semi driver suffered minor injuries.

All occupants of the Acura and the semi were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation but it is unknown if alcohol is a factor.
