Owosso students learn geography through post card project
OWOSSO, Mich. -- Students in Owosso are learning geography while collecting postcards from around the world.
Mrs. West's class at Emerson Elementary started the project at the beginning of the year and they have been reaching out to other classes, businesses and family members from all over the country to send them postcards.
Everyday Mrs. West shares a new post card with the 3rd grade class and some geographical facts about the location it came from.
"We really focus on raising our kids to be global thinkers, and to think of the world as a bigger picture, and that it's bigger than our small town of Owosso,” said Jamie West, 3rd grade teacher.
"When we get a new postcard usually our teacher will read the back of it, and she'll usually read the back of it, and then she'll hang it up. She'll hang it up with like a magnet,” said Emma Sanchez, 3rd grade teacher.
Mrs. West says they haven't received post cards from every state yet so if you're headed out on a trip, keep the students at Emerson Elementary in Owosso in mind.
