CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle while walking on I-75.
An investigation found a car went off the road on I-75 just north of Gaines Highway in Chippewa County, Chippewa County Sheriff's Deputies said.
Everyone in the vehicle, driver and three passengers, had been drinking, deputies said.
Two of the passengers left the scene and started walking south on I-75 in the traffic lane while wearing dark clothes.
The two were then hit by a pick-up truck that was driving in the southbound lane, according to deputies.
One pedestrian was killed, the other was taken to War Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the first vehicle was arrested for operating while intoxicated, open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, unregistered vehicle, possession of schedule 5 narcotic and resisting arrest.
Deputies said the driver also assaulted a corrections officer after the arrest and an assault on a corrections officer charge was added.
The third passenger in that vehicle was arrested on open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.
Deputies said the driver of the pick-up truck had not been drinking.
Names are being withheld as the investigation continues.
