MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- Mackinac Island Police have determined the death of a man at Arch Rock was the result of suicide.

The man's body was found by a passerby at the base of Arch Rock around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Police issued a press release Thursday stating that the man intentionally jumped from the top of Arch Rock and left a note indicating his plans.

Mackinac Island Police officers and Michigan State Police troopers conducted the investigation and were assisted by the Mackinac County Medical Examiner’s office.

“The men and women of the Mackinac Island Police Department offer our sincere condolences to the victim’s family as they face the difficult days ahead," said Mackinac Island Chief of Police Doug Topolski.

The victim’s mother and father urged those who may be in crisis to seek counseling.

The number to the Upper Peninsula Suicide Prevention Coalition is 800-562-7622.
