Red Cross prepares to help warming shelters
MICHIGAN(WPBN/WGT) -- The Northern Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross is prepared to help warming shelters across Northern Michigan if they open.
Cathy Anthofer-Fialon, the Executive Director for the Northern Michigan Red Cross says they have about 25 volunteers on standby to help at warming shelters if necessary.
The Red Cross has supplies such as cots, blankets, water bottles and snacks.
Anthofer-Fialon says they've been in constant communication with emergency managers.
"It's important for us to have volunteers standing by so they're ready to go if the need arises so if a warming shelter is opened by a county that we're able to get there and provide supplies as they made need from us," said Anthofer-Fialon.
It's up to county emergency managers to decide if warming shelters open.
