Scuba North hosts treasure hunt

Scuba North has been organizing scuba treasure hunts for close to 30 years.

LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Scuba North hosted its annual treasure hunt at Greilickville Harbor Park on Sunday afternoon.

More than 30 divers searched for tiny flags beneath the surface of the Grand Traverse Bay.

The flags had numbers on them that corresponded with different prizes.

Prizes ranged from small items like water bottles and t-shirts to large items like new dive equipment and technology.

The proceeds from the $25 diver entry fee will go to Friends of Easling Pool.

"Yeah, it's cool to find things and go win a nice prize, but most of it's social," Scuba North owner Bob Thorpe said. "People are coming out here to hang out with like-minded people, and then it's a chance to raise money for a good cause."

Thorpe says Scuba North has been organizing scuba treasure hunts for close to 30 years.
