Missing Manistee County teen found safe

Garrett was found safe Friday evening.

MANISTEE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — A teen missing from Manistee County has been found safe.

Sheriff John O'Hagan said 16-year-old Garrett Sheaks was found safe Friday evening. He is currently with family. More information is expected soon.

Garrett went missing Monday around 11 p.m.

On Thursday morning, Manistee County Emergency Management called in the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to help comb the area around the teen's home.

Nearly three dozen volunteers from local fire crews, EMS, DNR and law enforcement from Benzie County and Manistee County helped in the search.

Garrett's mother, Julie Shively, family friends and law enforcement also posted flyers at local businesses.

Shively says Garrett has Asperger's Syndrome, has had some troubles in school and in his personal life recently. She says he has been depressed and was worried he may be suicidal.

Garrett is a junior at Manistee High School.
