MASON COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- Three people were arrested for operating while intoxicated after investigators say they were drag racing and crashed.

Crews were called to Lakeshore Drive near Weisenheimer Road in Summit Township around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

The Mason County Sheriff says Megan Brown, 25, of Shelby, Alberto Ramirez, 22, of Ludington and Brayden Chavalia, 23 were all arrested.

Deputies say Chavalia was driving with two other people in the car when he lost control of the car and it rolled over.

Chavalia told deputies he was racing with another vehicle.

Shortly after, crews responded to another crash reported further down Lakeshore Drive.

Brown and Ramirez were in that second vehicle.

Deputies say Brown was driving when Ramirez grabbed the wheel from the passenger side, sending the car off the road and into several trees.

Ramirez was treated for minor injuries before being taken to jail.

Brown and Ramirez were charged with OWI first offense and bond was set at $2,500. Chavalia was also charged with OWI first offense. Bond was also set at $2,500.

"It's really odd that you would have a single vehicle accident that you would arrest two people for drunk driving," said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. "But the investigation shows that the passenger was in control of the vehicle when the car went off the road and hit the tree."
