Sheriff: Drunk driver clocked at nearly 100 mph

A man was arrested in Leelanau County for driving nearly 100 miles per hour, according to deputies.

LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- An alleged drunk driver was arrested for going nearly 100 miles per hour in Leelanau County.

Around 6:40 Wednesday night a Leelanau County Sheriff's Deputy clocked a driver in a Chevrolet Cruze going 98 miles per hour.

The deputy stopped the vehicle and reported smelling alcohol on the man.

According to the deputy, the man said he hadn't been drinking and was coming home from an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

After an investigation, the deputy arrested the driver on suspicion of operating while intoxicated.

Deputies said his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

The driver, a 20-year-old from Lake Ann is on probation for a 2017 drug conviction, according to deputies.

He is lodged in the Leelanau County Jail for OWI and violation of his restricted driver's license.

The man was also cited for traveling 98 mph in a 55 mph zone.
