Sheriff releases report on Drummond Island plane crash
MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- The Mackinac County Sheriff's Office has finished its investigation into a plane that went missing about 20 years ago, and was found deep in the woods earlier this summer.
A forensic anthropologist officially identified the two victims of the crash as Mark and Janet Davies from Howell.
The couple was flying home from Drummond Island when their single-engine plane crashed in the Hiawatha National Forest near St. Ignace.
“I think it’s difficult for the families to have this extended out over decades, and I hope that this gives the family some solace, some peace about the situation," said Sheriff Scott Strait.
That National Transportation Safety Board has also finished its on-site investigation, it could be months before its full report on the crash is complete.
