Sheriff: Couple identified in attempted murder-suicide

The victims in the attempted murder-suicide in Isabella County have been identified by the sheriff.

ISABELLA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Law enforcement is digging for details after two people were shot in Isabella County Wednesday night.

Around 5 p.m. Wednesday night a man called 911 and reported he had shot his wife.

Dispatchers reported hearing another gunshot while on the phone with the man.

Isabella County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a home South Brinton Road near West Jerseyville Road in Blanchard.

When deputies got to the home they found 66-year-old Janice Hatt alive with multiple gunshot wounds and 68-year-old Bradford Hatt dead from an apparent self-inflicted shot.

Janice was airlifted to a hospital in Grand Rapids and deputies said she's still in critical condition after a long surgery.

Law enforcement was on the scene until just before 3 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators are interviewing family and friends to get a better understanding of what led up to the shooting.

Investigators hope to speak to the victim in the coming days but it depends on her condition and recovery.
