Six fire departments respond to business fire
CHEBOYGAN COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- Six different fire departments were called to fight a fire at Brandt's Sport Center in Cheboygan County Sunday night.
The store sells recreational vehicles like snowmobiles, jet skis and motorcycles.
The fire appears to have started in the back of the building where the maintenance shop is located.
It burned through a large portion of the roof, and caused serious damage to the rest of the store.
No one was inside the building when the fire started, and no one was hurt.
The store has been run by the Brandt family for 47 years in the same location.
The owner says they plan to rebuild in the same spot.
“I was raised just down in Aloha, which is a few miles from here, so I’ve been in this area forever and we’re going to rebuild right here back in the same spot," said owner Fred Brandt. "We have to tear this all down, but we’re going to build right here again, and my son will be taking it over.”
Firefighters still aren't sure what exactly caused the fire to start and an investigation is underway.
The owner says luckily, they kept a lot of inventory in a building next door that wasn't damaged.
