South Garfield closed after truck carrying road paint overturns into ditch
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- South Garfield is closed between Three Mile Road and Rusch Road as crews continue to clean up a crash involving an overturned truck.
Chief Pat Parker with the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department said the 23-year-old driver was heading toward Three Mile Road around 7 a.m. when the truck left the road.
The truck, from PK Contracting, was carrying water-based paint that is used to line roads at the time of the crash.
Investigators said up to 1,000 gallons or more of paint fell off the truck.
Investigators said speed and alcohol are not factors in the crash.
Parker said the crash may have been caused by some sort of malfunction.
The Department of Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency is on the way to the scene since the paint spilled into a creek near the site.
Michigan State Police troopers are on scene investigating.
The driver was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
As of 9:30 a.m. the portion of the road was still closed and crews were working on getting the truck out.
