Stand Up for Great Lakes donates $15,000 to shipwreck historical society
ANTRIM COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A group of paddle boarders raised money over the summer when they cross Lake Superior and now they're donated those funds to a good cause.
The money was raised during their 21-hour, difficult voyage across Lake Superior in July.
They presented the check to the Historical Society on Saturday, November 10, which was the 43rd anniversary of the wreck of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald, along with a log they found floating near the site of the wreck.
“The reason we picked this organization is because everything they do is amazing. They’re a nonprofit and they recover new shipwrecks, but they tell the stories of other shipwrecks and just stories of the Great Lakes," said Kwin Morris, Stand Up for Great Lakes Co-founder. "We feel like when people know the history of something, they will do their part to protect it.”
A documentary about the trek across Superior will debut on Thanksgiving Day.
