CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The two men accused of home invasion and kidnapping have been charged in Chippewa County.

George Cunningham, 53, and Jon Stygler, 68, were arraigned on multiple charges including kidnapping, assault, home invasion and child endangerment, Chippewa County Sheriff's Deputies said.

According to investigators, the men were armed with knives, a chemical spray and blunt objects when they entered a home in Whitefish Township.

Investigators said when Cunningham and Stygler entered the home, sprayed the victims with the chemical spray, zip tied them and duct taped their mouths shut.

Both men began looking for the 5-year-old in the house.

While the men were searching, one of the family members was able to get themselves free and stab at least one of the men, said Chippewa County Undersheriff Greg Postma.

The two men then took a five-year-old boy from the home, who was Cunningham's biological son, deputies said.

Cunningham, Stygler and the child left the truck and headed across Lake Superior toward Canada on foot.

Deputies tracked the three and found them about two-miles east of the Lake Superior shoreline.

Cunningham was denied bond and Stygler was given a $1 million bond with a tether.
